Welcome

NH & NY State licensed and nationally board certified since 1997, I first began studying acupuncture and Traditional Asian Medicine while I was a novice monk at a jungle monastery in northeastern Thailand. It sparked a life long passion for deepening my knowledge and perfecting patient care.

Paul's Story

Paul Rooney’s path to becoming a skilled acupuncturist and healer was shaped by early challenges and a deep-seated curiosity about health. Raised in Westchester County, NY, Paul’s life was marked by significant health struggles that would set him on his future path. At 12, he endured undiagnosed Lyme disease, a harrowing experience that included months of doctor visits and years of persistent joint pain. At 15, he underwent two major surgeries for a tumor in his pelvic bone, which required a bone graft and long hospital stays, during the recovery of which he was first exposed to Traditional Asian Medicine receiving Japanese shiatsu treatments . These experiences sparked Paul’s interest in understanding alternative approaches to healing and recovery.

Years later, while completing his degree in International Relations and Economics at Syracuse University, Paul gained insight into high-performance environments while working on Wall Street as an analyst with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. After graduation, his path took him around the world—living in Prague as a journalist at the Prague Post and teaching English. However, his life took a pivotal turn in 1993 when he traveled to Thailand and became a novice monk in a monastery on the Cambodian border. Immersed in Buddhist meditation practices, he encountered Traditional East Asian Medicine and found significant relief from the physical and mental effects of his early health challenges through acupuncture and herbal medicine.

Inspired, Paul returned to the U.S. to pursue formal training in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Japanese style acupuncture, enrolling in what is now Bastyr University. There, he excelled, graduating at the top of his class and developing unique acupuncture protocols, which he began crafting as a student and has refined ever since. In 1997, he founded American Acupuncture Clinic in Rochester, NY, where he pioneered these methods and later presented his protocols at the New York State Chiropractic College, unveiling a unique implementation of classic texts which achieves a high success rate and accelerated recovery time for a range of disorders.

In 2020, he closed the clinic and shifted to telehealth and teaching as his partner's autoimmune disease worsened. Paul began teaching as an adjunct professor, sharing his expertise at TCM colleges in Toronto, CA and Columbus, OH, passing on his deep knowledge and compassion to emerging practitioners.

Paul has now brought his expertise to New Hampshire, founding Neurological Acupuncture of New Hampshire. His acupuncture clinic operates on a concierge model, offering in-home and clinic-based services, including post-surgical support, telehealth, and highly customized acupuncture and herbal treatments, all centered on personalized acupuncture for neurological and cognitive health.
